5 finch day

Today was the most favorable day in a while.  52 species were found from the tower, including 5 species that were new for the season.  Today’s firsts were: Rock Pigeon, Red Crossbill, Belted Kingfisher, Peregrine Falcon, & Brown Creeper.  With the nice Red Crossbill irruption that occurred this past season, this will hopefully be the first of many of this species.  5 total finch species were found today including the crossbill, 33 House Finches, 15 Pine Siskins, 1 Common Redpoll, and 4 American Goldfinches.  Other notable finds today include 3 Red-throated Loons, & the fact that the counts for Common Grackle & Brown-headed Cowbird have now grown quite a bit as we step further into spring.
